CarScout uses a small number of cookies, browser-storage keys, and third-party analytics SDKs. This page lists every one of them, what each is for, and how to opt out.
Cookies & browser storage we set
Supabase auth session
Purpose: Keeps you signed in across page loads. Stored as an HTTP-only cookie set by Supabase Auth.
Controller: CarScout (data resides in our Supabase project).
Opt-out: Sign out, or clear cookies for this site. You will not be able to access account-gated features without it.
Theme preference (next-themes)
Purpose: Remembers whether you chose light or dark mode. Stored in localStorage under the key theme.
Controller: CarScout (no data leaves your browser).
Opt-out:Clear your browser’s site data for this site.
Third-party analytics SDKs
Vercel Analytics
Purpose: Aggregate page-view and Web Vitals telemetry. No personal identifiers are sent.
Third party: Vercel Inc.
Opt-out: Block vitals.vercel-analytics.com via browser extension or use Do-Not-Track. CarScout will respect a future cookie-banner consent toggle once added.
PostHog product analytics
Purpose: Anonymous product-event tracking (e.g. VIN-lookup attempts, deal-pool views) so we can improve the product.
Third party: PostHog Inc.
Opt-out: Block us.i.posthog.comvia browser extension. Server-side rate-limit telemetry will continue to be recorded for abuse prevention.
